101 Brockbank Cartoons as a Gift for Xmas

A wonderful retrospective of motoring past in a collection of Brockbank cartoons, with a foreward by Quentin Blake, has been published by Haynes Publishing.
What an excellent and inexpensive Xmas gift.

Motoring enthusiasts need no introduction to Russell Brockbank’s incomparable cartoons, which were hugely popular in the fifties, sixties and seventies but have been rarely published since his death in 1979. This collection of some of his best work will introduce his humour and draughtsmanship to new generations of enthusiasts as well as stir nostalgia among long time devotees.

Although driving conditions have changed since ‘Brock’ worked his humourous magic in many top magazines of the day (Punch,Lilliput,Motor and many more), readers will still recognise those timeless situations that cause laughter even today. Gentle fun that causes little offence: the gentle dig at the lady driver, the ‘it’s not my fault I crashed into you’ road user, the back seat driver, the social snobbery of different car owners, and so on. You will also notice that some vehicles on our roads are still similar to several illustrated in the cartoons, giving a familiar ‘feel’ that helps you to relate to the joke or story being told. Therefore, you will see included minis,Rolls Royces,a predecessor to the Fiat’500′,and motor homes and vehicles of various types.

This book of cartoons provides at least 101 chuckles, and a reminder of charming and perhaps more gentle times. Haynes Publishing have produced a light and attractive slim volume which would grace any coffee table or desk, always ready to hand when an amusing break is welcome. Definitely, a worthy present for the motoring enthusiast. You can obtain a copy from any good book shop, or you can buy it at a reasonable price online. Click here 101 Brockbank Cartoons
