THE AUTHOR
The Scarborough scooter rallies of the late 1970s was where Pete Davies’ interest in Lambretta scooters began. Through the 1980s until today, Pete has owned a variety of Lambrettas made in Italy, Spain and India, from the humble LD 150 to a tuned GP 150. In 1999 Pete undertook the role of Vehicle Registrar for the Lambretta Club of Great Britain, and with it came a desire to discover far more detailed information on Lambretta scooters, wherever they were built. Now running the British Lambretta Archive, Pete is still discovering and sharing information on what he claims is the world’s finest scooter.

In less than 15 days, the curtain goes up on the Olympiad in Beijing. As the world braces itself for the imminent fever-grip of Olympic competition, we can reflect on other Summer Games of the recent past: Tokyo 1964,Munich 1972,USA 1984, Mexico 1968,and Moscow.
These were eventful Games: Tokyo was the first Games to be hosted by a non-western nation, a total of 93 nations actually participated;Munich was marred by the tragic massacre of 11 Israeli athletes, but the Games went on;Los Angeles hosted the 1984 Games, boycotted by the Soviet Union in a ‘tit-for-tat’ reaction to the USA boycott of its Games of 1980;in 1968 Mexico held another controversial Games that nearly didn’t happen because of a massacre in Mexico City 10 days before they were due to begin.
Apart from being attractive and functional pieces of ‘kit’, these bags are a reminder that the spirit and ideals of the Olympic movement, though sorely tested on several occasions, have prevailed. We look forward with anticipation the Games soon to be held in Beijing.
If the Olympics are your thing, or you simply see this accessory as a little different, why not check-out these bags with their distinctive logos and Games’ history at atomretro.com retro clothing
