Retro Radio is the Story of Roberts Radio
Recently,at Christmas in fact, I took delivery of a Roberts WM201 Wi-Fi Internet Radio and Media Player (shown among the above at centre back) as a present. It has become my ‘pride and joy’ with endless hours of listening mainly the programmes playing 50s and 60s music. My radio with its black polished case and retro looking tuner dial, but with the latest generation of radio technology inside it, inspired me to enquire a little into Roberts Radio Company’s illustrious history.It is a very impressive story of a family business ,growing from humble beginnings in 1932, achieving a huge reputation to the present day for high quality products by dint of hard work,ingenuity,determination,and innovation.The Roberts Radio history takes us from the pioneering of receiving sets (’the wireless’) with valves,to the transition from valves to transisters in the 50s, to the present day circuits for digital radio.What a fascinating journey!Incidentally,I managed to find out where my Christmas was sourced.You can visit Empire Direct and search for the WM 201 (which product certainly carries on a fine tradition for superb quality radios) for further details- click here
