12 emojis of 20th century design icons very much alive and kicking

With some fun in mind deathbymodernism.com have produced a set of emojis that confirm to us that great design from the last century is still very much alive. The designer furniture retailer based in New York offers us a reminder of this with a small sample of the most iconic pieces designed by several of the most renowned designers of the 20th century.

This is entertainingly achieved by adopting the digital image concept beloved of the mobile phone age and combining it with 11 iconic designs (and one representation of the American husband and wife design team of Ray and  Charles  Eames).

Whether or not Apple will see it as something on which to grow a collection in respect of  such wonderful items will remain to be seen. Many have suggested that this would be most welcome.

For now it is what it is a great little tribute to the best of the midcentury designer movement.

The set comprises:

  • the Eames team’s  LaChaise, Recliner, wooden house bird and daw chair
  • the Wishbone Chair by Danish Architect Hans J Wegner
  • Eero Aarnio’s 1960s Ball Chair
  • the Bubble Pendant Lamp and Sunburst Clock by American engineer George Nelson
  • the Panton Chair by Verner Panton
  • Finnish Architect Eero Saarinen’s white Tulip Table
