The 675 is what a truly timeless mid-century chair design looks like

In 1952, renowned furniture designer Robin Day produced his timeless mid-century chair design the 675 in 1952.Much replicated by others ever since, it received full and due recognition by being awarded a Design Mark Award in 2015.We have acknowledged the makers Case Furniture who are continuing to make and help promote this great chair.

This classic, designed to last, has an ingeniously styled moulded back of bent plywood with a walnut veneer. Cleverly the sides of the back are turned into arm rests. The seat has usually been black. The legs are in a hairpin structure in chrome. Many reproductions of this iconic design have made creative designs for the seat. Often in beautiful woven patterned wool finishes.

Who would value a chair like this? And why? Well, it is highly functional and pleasing to the eye.
Its minimalist qualities are beguiling in a home office or as prominent piece in the living room. It has its place along with other stylish 20th century items in a retro or modern setting.

The simplicity of design and quality of structure ensure that it will continue to be an essential and popular vintage-inspired piece of living room or study furniture.
Robin Day’s daughter Paula has worked to remember her father’s work and today she is Chair of the Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation which provides educational support for young people who want to make design their career.
