This truly classic vintage design rocker armchair (the RAR) is one of a series of stylish and adaptable chairs, and one of the most well known and loved, created by the famous Eames husband and wife team from 1948.
The plastic seat of the chair is moulded polypropylene and in a single all-through colour. The slim criss-cross chrome legs are in the attractive Eiffel Tower pattern and are secured at the base to two slim solid beams of maple for runners curved to effect the gentle rocking motion for the chair. There are seven colour finishes in a range of self colours to choose from.
This wonderful flexible use furniture designed to be both fun as well as functional would be ideal for indoors or outside; as a living room piece, in the conservatory, nursery or veranda.
It is of timeless design and construction that was a great success at its launch and has remained so popular today. It is from the original model by vitra and is on offer by Heal’s, the contemporary furniture design experts. Its popularity is vouched for by the fact that it has been copied so often by others, and these copies may be cheaper from elsewhere in the marketplace.
My view is that I would like to own a classic piece whose design can be traced to the late 1940s, even though I might expect to have to spend that little more to have this quality of chair in my living room.
