Stunning Teak Nest of Tables by G Plan

Stunning Teak Nest of Tables by G Plan

This beautifully kept and presented set of tables by BarkerandChurcher in the G plan design comprises a large low table and two smaller tables of roughly half size which slide away neatly to fill the space underneath the top of the larger table forming the “nest.”

A distinctive design of straight lines and soft tapering curves, together with the rich dark tones of teak gives this set its presence as well as making it indispensable in a living room. The dimensions are : Length 98 X D 49 X Height 51 cm - Long Table
Length 43 X D 45 X Height 48 cm - Small Tables

As well as being an attractive example of fine mid-century design, it is a space saver when not fully in use and the smaller tables are tidied away. This is a gem from the 1970s.

In the 1950s, the G Plan design range helped a Buckinghamshire based business founded towards the end of the 19th century to become a major manufacturer of well made and stylish furniture intended to be reasonably affordable to the growing number of homemakers who were feeling less constrained by the effects of World War II regulations which had hitherto controlled the use of essential materials, wood for example, for the manufacture of products for the home. E Gomme Limited provided a range of pieces which could be collected separately over time to furnish fully most rooms in the house. Known for its various designs for nests of coffee and side tables , and low glass-topped tables (I have one of those!), G Plan’s stamp was also to be seen on sideboards, dining room tables and cabinets of various sizes.
The 1960s saw the introduction of the teak designs.
